- Abstract
This paper seeks to empirically address the effectiveness of therapeutic methods used in the detraumatization of PTSD by migrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The objectives of the research are to reach an understanding: (1) What methods have proven effective in the detraumatization of migrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina? (2) Is it possible to rank these methods according to their effectiveness? Different secondary and primary data were used for research purposes. The primary source of data was the operational application of the exposed methods during PTSD therapy in migrant detraumatization. The study population consisted of patients who authored a paper at the Internationales Familienzentrum in Frankfurt. Random patient selection was used. The study included 300 PTSD patients, which represented more than 10% of the estimated total population of the study population. It was carried out over a period of 10 years, i.e. from 1998 to 2008. The dependent variable is the successful detraumatization of migrants by PTSD. Included are five independent variables (1) pharmacotherapy), and four types of psychotherapy i.e. (2) positive psychotherapy, (3) cognitive-behavioural therapy, (4) EMDR), (5) integrative therapy. Statistical analysis method with emphasis on multiple regression analysis was applied. Positive psychotherapy followed by cognitive - behavioural therapy and EMDR with the highest median value. The average deviation from the mean values, expressed as a percentage, is highest in cognitive - behavioural therapy and lowest in EMDR therapy. All independent variables are acceptable since their Cronbach alpha values are greater than 0.7. The coefficient of determination indicates that all five of the independent variables involved affect the efficacy of therapy for migrants with PTSD with 46.18% of the variance. Among the independent variables included, the most significant correlation with the efficacy of migraine detraumatization was found by positive psychotherapy (= 0.4856, t = 3.7591, p <0.05). Cognitive-behavioural therapy followed (= 0.4106, t = -1.5283, p <0.05). Integrative therapy (= 0.1695, t = 3.3027, p<0.05) ranked third in the interdependence with the treatment efficiency of migrants. In the fifth, EMDR (= 0.0537, t = 1.7106, p>0,05). Two independent variables :, pharmacotherapy and EMDR have no statistically significant effect on the treatment efficacy of migrants with PTSD (since p> 0.05), while the other variables, i.e. positive psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and integrative therapy have a statistically significant effect (p <0.05).
