- Abstract
The article focuses on the representation of dogs in police and camp guard service in the period of the 1960s to the 1980s. It discusses narratives on the dog theme in Russian prisons of the period by Russian dissident writers and journalists Izrail Metter, Georgii Vladimov, and Sergei Dovlatov. It says that these authors problematise issues linked to national character and ethnic identity in their dog narratives and express views on covert and overt aspects of political agendas of the period.
