According to the article, "De la Démocratie en Amérique" (Democracy in America), by Alexis De Tocqueville, has been studied in light of its interpretations of the economic success of the United States during the 19th century. In this article, the author examines how Alexis De Tocqueville used his interviewing of Americans to draw conclusions about various social phenomena. The article also examines how De Tocqueville used the work "The Wealth of Nations," by the economist Adam Smith, as a point of reference for his understanding of economic concepts.
