- Abstract
The article discusses the work of Indian artists created during the 1990s and the first decade of the 21st century. According to the author, the most self-reflexive, critically astute and aesthetically sound art of these two decades resides within the realms of media and new media art practices. The work of several artists is discussed including Nalini Malani, Rummana Hussain and Amar Kanwar. The author argues that these and other artists have created works in response to social grievances and problems faced by Indian society.
