- Authors
Martin, Patricia M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Spanish heritage and historical foundation of Oaxaca City in Mexico. It notes that the city was founded in 1521 using the urbanization concepts of Spanish imperialism in the Americas. It likewise adds that Spanish imperialism in the city produced an urban idea that is hostile to its surroundings and undeveloped areas. Moreover, it states that Oaxaca represents socio-economic, racialized, and cultural values that are progressively practiced in most Latin American societies.
