- Abstract
"The Lost History of Sextus Aurelius Victor" by Justin A. Stover and George Woudhuysen challenges the commonly accepted understanding of fourth-century Latin literature. The authors argue that the Historiae abbreviatae and the Epitome de Caesaribus, previously attributed to Aurelius Victor, are actually epitomes of a larger lost history by Victor that covered imperial history from Augustus to Julian. They also question the existence of the Enmannsche Kaisergeschichte and its influence on Latin historiography. The book presents a paradigm-shifting argument that opens up new avenues for investigation into fourth-century Latin historiography.
