- Abstract
The specie Leishsmania braziliensis is responsible for the highest number of cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the American continent. In Argentina, the north eastern provinces, mainly Corrientes and Misiones, have the highest prevalence of leishmaniasis in animals and humans. Bats present a series of characteristics that allow them to act as potential hosts for Leishmania, thus fulfilling an important role in the introduction and/or maintenance of the transmission cycles of Leishmania species in the centers urban. In Argentina, there is little information on the real situation of this parasitosis in chiropterans, for that reason the present work aims to report on the first record of Leishmania braziliensis in an insectivorous chiropter captured in an urban area of the city of Corrientes identified by molecular biology techniques.
