- Title
From John F. Kennedy's 1960 Campaign Speech to Christian Supremacy: Religion in Modern Presidential Politics.
- Authors
NEWMAN, STEPHEN A.
- Abstract
The article examines the presence of Christian supremacy in politics. It evaluates the speech of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on September 12, 1960. Kennedy, who was guided by his Catholicism, addressed issues regarding religion as a personal and private matter instead of a campaign issue. In the 2008 presidential elections, it is noted that there were candidates who promoted their own faith, religious figures, and their goal of increasing the presence of religion in public life.
