- Abstract
This article discusses the life of Sephardi communities Livorno, Italy during the early modern Mediterranean world. The Jewish community of Livorno grew rapidly, and the city soon became a major entry point of Mediterranean trade. Throughout the early modern period, Livorno served as the center of a network of Sephardi communities in the Mediterranean and beyond, providing the link between Sephardi Jews in North Africa, the Atlantic world, Italy itself, and the Ottoman Empire. Livorno also emerged as a major point of reference in the world of Jewish learning and in particular of Hebrew print.
