- Abstract
An essay is presented on the changes brought by security considerations to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It explores the architectural history of the Mall as well as how the ideals of democracy are represented on the building. Also discussed is the evolution of the landscape in Capitol standing in pronounced contrast to the ways in which there was a development of major public spaces in European capital cities in preceding centuries.
