- Abstract
The article discusses the adaptation of English author Jane Austen's 1815 novel "Emma" into the Indian Bollywood film "Aisha," directed by Rajshree Ojha. Topics addressed include the challenges of mixing the values of former Indian colonizer Great Britain and India's own traditions, post-colonial protagonists' struggle to understand modern Indian identity, and the text's transformation for the Bollywood genre. Also mentioned are the film's intertextuality and Austen's embodiment of Englishness.
