- Abstract
The article examines the deprivation of agency from individuals or vulnerable communities of color by law enforcement and the legal and carceral systems. Topics discussed are suppression of self-representation by the carceral state in the name of security and cost savings, restoration of agency for incarcerated persons citing the case of Graterford Prison in Pennsylvania as model of rehabilitation, and measures to empower incarcerated individuals who have been stripped of their agency.
