- Abstract
This article discusses two cases of increased fetal heart rate (FHR) variability during the second stage of labor. In both cases, the FHR pattern became abnormal during maternal active pushing efforts. Umbilical cord blood gas analysis showed signs of fetal acidosis in both cases. The authors suggest that a fetus with a saltatory FHR pattern during pushing efforts may be at increased risk for hypoxia and that this should be considered in the management of labor and delivery.
