- Abstract
1. A series of 28 patients with coronary thrombosis and infarction were tested by a 23 gm low fat-low cholesterol daily dietary together with combinations of lipotropic agents for 6 months. 2. The lipotropic combination consisted of 3 gm of choline, 2 gm of inositol, 4 gm of methionine and natural B complex obtained from 12 gm of liver, administered orally every day for 6 months. 3. Serum phosphohpid/cholesterol ratios were determined before and after treatment with diet and lipotropic agents. 4. By reducing the exogenous dietary fat and cholesterol intake serum cholesterol levels were reduced. By increasing the exogenous source of phospholipids through the ingestion of adequate amounts of lipotropic substances, serum phospholipids were elevated. 5. In this series of 28 patients with coronary atherosclerosis subnormal serum/phospholipid/cholesterol ratios below 1.0 were restored to normal levels above 1.0 by the method of treatment described.
