- Abstract
Cantaloupe melon (Cucumis melo L.) is the most important horticultural crop. However has not been established a nitrogen fertilization and soil moisture guidance for maintaining an adequate nutrimental state that relates with yield and fruit quality. In this research work, were studied the effect of four nitrogen doses fertilizations and three soil moisture levels on the foliar concentrations of eight plant nutrients and their relationship with yield and fruit quality. Findings showed that no statistical significant differences were observed between treatments on the foliar concentrations; with respect to the level nutrimental recommended for each one of nutrients, it was observed that N, P, K and Cu were inside the sufficiency level; while Mg, Mn and Fe were found in the interval for excessive level and Ca in the deficiency side. Fruit yield and quality were highly correlated with K concentration. In conclusion, findings let to know that foliar nutrient concentrations are not useful indicator for estimating yield and fruit quality, but they are for a management of nutrient and soil moisture that let the crop of the adequate levels.
