The article presents a transnational analysis of trends within 21st-century musical theater, focusing on the ways in which the Broadway musical has expanded in meaning from merely a New York City-based production to a dramatic genre being adopted throughout the world. Topics addressed include international cooperation in funding and touring popular musicals, the elements of the Broadway musical genre, and discussion of specific works from Germany and South Korea.
