- Title
The Domestic Transcendentalism of Fanny Fern.
- Authors
Moses, Carole
- Abstract
This essay explores the domestic transcendental beliefs of novelist and newspaper columnist Fanny Fern. The author observes the typicality of Fern's domestic transcendentalism, in which a liberal passage is set within an essay praising more conventional Sabbath-keeping. It is noted that the popular view of Fern as a rebel overlooks the vast amount of sentimental writing in her six anthologies. Several of Fern's collected nonfiction works are examined to evaluate her literary strategies, including "Fresh Leaves" and "Folly As It Flies."
