- Title
The New Great Game: Water Allocation in Post-Soviet Central Asia.
- Authors
Wegerich, Kai
- Abstract
The article discusses the plans to increase the water allocation in Central Asia by increasing the reservoir capacity of the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan to allow an integration into the large water management infrastructure. It notes that the Rogun Dam project was perceived to pose threat to the amount of water available for irrigation in downstream states. It mentions that Uzbekistan countered the plan of the World Bank to fund the project and claimed that the water allocation quotas were unfair because it favored Turkmenistan much.
