- Abstract
This article explores the material and domestic world of the elite in Santiago de Cuba from the perspective of the arts. In particular, it shows how a study of furniture highlights the changes that occurred between 1830 and 1868 in terms of mentalities and the idea of comfort in the bourgeois world of Santiago society on the one hand and, on the other, the impact of a large and dynamic group of people who, coming from Saint Domingue or directly from France, settled in the city. Its aim is to demonstrate how the material world of Santiago's aristocracy was transformed by the influence of customs brought by the French settlers in the city.
