- Abstract
This article discusses a case of meningoencephalitis and retinal vasculitis caused by a rickettsial infection. Rickettsia are bacteria that are transmitted through ectoparasites like ticks, fleas, mites, or lice. The patient in this case had recently traveled to Mexico and developed symptoms such as chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, headache, and meningism. The diagnosis was confirmed through positive serum results for rickettsia antibodies. The patient was treated with antibiotics and corticosteroids, and while there was improvement, the visual disturbances persisted. The article highlights the challenges in diagnosing rickettsial infections and the potential complications associated with them.
