- Title
Do Children Use Indexes Differently Than Adults? Summary of an Informal Survey of Index Users.
- Authors
Flatoff, Janice
- Abstract
The article provides information about a survey conducted on index users involving children and adults in the U.S. In conducting the survey, the author aimed to distinguish the difference between adult and children's use of index terms. Participants were given a list of names and other information to find in the index without reading the book. The results suggest that children tend to avoid using or looking up words/terms they did not understand. Age does not have any impact on the participant's choices of words to look up in the index.
