Small, Sharon
- Abstract
The article cites a study on the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada from a system perspective in relation to Aboriginal concepts of justice, particularly on the applicability of Youth Justice Committees as instruments for essential change and as a supportive mechanism for Metis people to implement culturally relevant and holistic justice processes. Resultant to this Act adaptation, the federal government improves it global image and it reduces the staggering federal costs of youth incarceration by transferring responsibility for youth justice to Canadian communities, and as the Act changes, opportunities arises for Aboriginal people to bring forward traditional concepts of justice for their youth.
