- Title
Risky business? A review of Jonathan Nelson & Richard Zeckhauser's Risk in Renaissance Art: Production, Purchase and Reception: Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2023.
- Authors
Piano, Ennio E.
- Abstract
According to the authors, the two types of risk most relevant to Renaissance art markets involve production and reception. Yet, this minor episode shows that, even today, art markets have not eliminated all risk involved in the production and exchange of valuable commodities. The former might possibly be an example of the result of production risk (high production risk leading to less production) and the latter fits more the authors' definition of reception risk. This is not the first time the authors have combined their complementary skills to analyze the economic logic of Italian Renaissance art markets.
