- Abstract
Although laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the standard treatment for symptomatic gallbladder diseases, there still is a substantial proportion of patients in whom conversion to open surgery is required. In this study, scientists have discussed whether male gender carry an increased risk for conversion to open surgery during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. All the patients but 2 men received laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Conversion to open cholecystectomy was necessary in those two men because of the intense pericholecystic fibrosis.
