- Abstract
The author shares his concerns regarding the use of publication metrics by universities and colleges to evaluate the scholarly contributions of their faculty members. The methods used to determine the quality of an article are presented and reasons for differing citation rates are explored. Publication in journals with high impact factors, quality of work regardless of citation rate or journal impact, and the value of scholarly work are also examined.
