- Abstract
The interdependencies between activation strategies implemented in response to demographic change, on one hand, and practices of citizenship evocated in order to make sustainable - in a life course perspective - the individual lives, on the other hand, imply a discussion of the conceptual dimensions on whose basis such strategies and practices have been defined. Discussing the link between the forms of activation in the life course deployment and the issues that lead to the expression of citizenship's rights and duties (both of social and economic kind) leads also to highlight some themes that can be assumed as main issues within the debate on active policies and the ways to implement them. The learning society, the combating against the age barriers in employment, the reform of social security systems are taken as examples of new challenges in the fields of social protection, activation and active citizenship which ask adequate and sustainable responses.
