- Abstract
A female specimen of Mola alexandrini (Ranzani, 1839) was captured by set net off the Goto islands, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan on 22 October 2019. This specimen (194.5 cm total length) represented the first record from Nagasaki Prefecture. Head and chin bumps (taxonomic key characters of this species that develop ontogenetically) were not observed in this specimen, and it was presumed that their development was delayed or was an exceptional specimen without bumps. Moreover, the liver weight (2.23 kg) and digestive tract length (560 cm) of this species in Japanese coastal waters have not been reported, and hence represented valuable biological data.
