- Abstract
In this article, the use of words as a therapeutic tool in different historical contexts is explored. Its importance in ancient Greece as a form of healing spell or persuasion is highlighted. The different historical traditions of the art of healing are mentioned, and it is pointed out that modern psychotherapies have their roots in suggestion, hypnosis, and psychoanalysis. The effectiveness of psychotherapy depends on magical and rhetorical components, as well as the hope cultivated by the patient and the qualities of the therapist. Empathy and the ability to establish alliances are determining characteristics for the therapist's effectiveness.
