This investigation explores the role of urban planning in achieving environmental sustainability, focusing on the city of Chiang Mai, in Thailand. Data was gathered from documentary review and during focus group meetings with a network of stakeholders, including city authorities, private sector members, civil society, and community leaders, A multi-stage project plan was then implemented, including organizing working group meetings, development of a city database, and organization of exhibitions and project summary activities in the community. The researchers used interdisciplinary research methods to create a sustainable urban ecosystem in Chiang Mai. The investigation proposes collaboration mechanisms among network partners, integration and expansion of cooperation among city organizations, creation of a learning center and learning nodes, and the development of a process to promote lifelong learning and expand opportunities for access to learning. This investigation highlights the need for sustainable urban development tailored to individual communities and the importance of considering social equity and accessibility in urban planning for environmental sustainability.
