- Abstract
The article focuses on genetic improvement in camelids and digestion of camelids is similar but not analogous to ruminal, being more efficient in protein extraction and energy from low-quality food. It mentions traditional livestock farming in the high Andean regions is based on in the use of exotic species, with a very low yield due to severe limitations environmental conditions. It also mentions use of exotic species, such as sheep and goats, brings about an intense deterioration of the soil.
