- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses the historiography of the labor union the United Farm Workers (UFW), the UFW leader César Chávez and labor in Kern County, California and Bakersfield, California from circa 1930 through the 1970s. An overview of chicanos' involvement in the UFW and the social justice movements in Central Valley is provided. California conservatives' attitudes towards the UFW are discussed.
