Creating a Musical Community The Founding of the Hollywood Bowl.
- Abstract
The article examines the founding of the Hollywood Bowl, an open-air theater located in Los Angeles, California. It is stressed that the Hollywood Bowl was the result of the progressive movement and was supported by community organizers interested in creating an alternative venue for the performing arts. The formation of the Hollywood Bowl Association in 1924 is discussed. The performance of European classical music was the main focus, while efforts to attract non-white audiences were slow to develop.
