- Authors
Pingree, David
- Abstract
The article argues that the transmission of Greek astrological manuscripts was sourced from an Arabic astrological compendium assembled by Rhetorius in Alexandria, Egypt, circa 620 AD. The author reviews the history of genethlialogy in the Near East, Middle East, and Egypt. Additional topics include the role of Greek author Antiochus of Athens, Christian astrologer Theophilus of Edessa, as well as his role in the Greek astrological manuscript tradition.
