- Abstract
The findings in this issue of I HSR i from Guo et al's evaluation of Texas' Wellness Incentive and Navigation (WIN) program are important as they add to our understanding of what motivates a very vulnerable group - disabled, Medicaid recipients with mental health conditions - to be more involved in their own health and care. Special coaching that helps patients to figure out what they want out of an office visit can be very beneficial to a less activated patient, but may be of little value to a highly activated patient. A key implication is that incorporating new and innovative strategies that facilitate patient autonomy and activation into care has significant potential for improving outcomes for even the most vulnerable patients.
