- Abstract
The use of UV radiations has attracted the attention of textile researchers. In the present study, the polyester fabric and Disperse Orange 25 dye solution were exposed to UV radiation for 15–75 min. Dyeing of UV-irradiated and un-irradiated polyester using Disperse Orange 25 dye solution was performed. The optimum value of UV radiation time was 75 min using an irradiated dye solution (RS) on un-irradiated polyester (NRP). Different dyeing parameters such as time, temperature, pH and material-to-liquor ratio were optimised. Good colour strength of fabric was obtained at 130°C for 45 min, using a dyeing bath of pH 10 of dye solution keeping material-to- liquor 1:75. Weight losses as well as change in pH (before and after treatment) were also investigated. The reported data show that at the optimum condition, colour strength values have been enhanced. Colour fastness properties using ISO standard method demonstrated that UV radiation of both polyester fabric and dye solution has improved the grading of fastness from fair to good. It was found that UV irradiation can successfully be applied to improve the dyeing behaviour of fabric using various classes of dyes.
