Metabolic surgery: The sooner the better for long‐term success?
- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the ongoing issue of obesity and the debate surrounding the timing of metabolic surgery (MS) as a treatment option. While MS is considered the most effective treatment for obesity, there is disagreement about when it should be performed. The authors argue that MS should be used earlier, before patients develop complications of obesity and obesity-associated diseases. The article presents a study that focuses on identifying preoperative markers of metabolic disease burden in adolescents undergoing sleeve gastrectomy and examines overall outcomes. The study suggests that earlier MS in adolescents leads to better long-term success and improved remission of metabolic diseases. The authors also discuss the potential for future clinical tools to predict patient response to MS. Overall, the article emphasizes the importance of early intervention in preventing and treating obesity and its related conditions.
