- Abstract
This study examines labor mobility in Korea's segmented labor market. We analyze four sub-labor markets based on employment type and firm size, comparing their characteristics and labor mobility probabilities. The empirical findings indicate that irregular workers face lower chances of transitioning to regular employment. However, once individuals secure regular jobs, they are more likely to remain in those positions. Moreover, upward labor mobility - moving to better jobs - improved working conditions, such as higher real wages and increased social insurance coverage. However, the likelihood of upward mobility from Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to the 'Large firm-Regular worker group' has decreased over time. In summary, the labor market in Korea has been segmented into multi-layered structures, and the segmentation has been intensified.
