- Abstract
Objective: Parents with disabled kids have plenty of different responsibilities and problems. The aim of this study is healthy living style behaviour assessment of the patients during struggling this challenge. Methods: This study was carried out in both a special education center located in Yenimahalle, Ankara and Family Health Clinic in Ankara Hospital, belong to Ministry of Health between April 15 and June 15, 2016. For this aim, 120 disabled kids" persons were included into the study. A survey including sociademographic questions and Healthy Life Behaviours Scale (HLBS) was applied to the participants. Data were analyzed by statistical program SPSS 16.00. Results: In this study, a total of 120 parents including 59 male (49.2%) and 61 female (50.8%) between 26 and 70 ages were included. The participants were categorized into 2 groups which are having disabled kid 60 (50%) and having nondisabled kid (control) 60 (50%). Score of spiritual developmental factor which is a sub-factor of HLBS was found to be higher in disabled kids" parents. A negative correlation was found between the participants having disabled kids and smoking. Among the participants, health professionals had the least number of disabled kid and housewives had the highest number of disabled kids. Conclusion: Having a disabled kid causes additional responsibilities and stress burdens on the parents. Patients in this group must be checked psychologically and physically by health workers at the curtail step.
