Preliminary results are presented on a cell-free system extracted from mycelium of Sclerotinia trifoliorum, which caused the disappearance of maackiain from solution. Activity depended on prior exposure of the mycelium to maackiain and on the inclusion of a protease inhibitor in the extraction buffer. No activity was found in culture filtrates.
