- Abstract
The article discusses the risks associated with ear candling. It presents the case of a 27-year-old man with complaints of pruritus of both his ears after he had undergone ear candling. A study by Seely et al. published in the 1996 issue of "Laryngoscope" showed that ear candling does not produce negative pressure in the external auditory canal and does not remove cerumen. Their survey found that 21 injuries were reported to otolaryngologists, including burns and injuries related to the accumulation of candle wax in the ear canal and tympanic membrane.
