- Abstract
University extension, while of the three pillars of the Public University, creates an opportunity for knowledge exchange and resignified of knowledge, contributing to decrease the research-application gap and to broaden the democratization of technicalscientific knowledge. The present experience report aimed to present the importance of research projects shared with the university extension, especially in the face of complex challenges, such as the production of seedlings of native forest species inoculated with beneficial microorganisms for the recovery of the river Doce basin. The project "Selection of microorganisms and massalproduction of inoculated substrate for seedling production, aiming at the repopulation of areas affected by the Fundão dam rupture" came in the face of the Mariana - MG environmental disaster, which occurred in November 2015 with the rupture from the Fundão dam. Thus, the project was elaborated seeking to include small businesses and locally sourced products, along with outreach activities. Among the principles that guided the extension activities reported in this article are the commitment to establish strategies to reduce research-application gaps, participatory communication, multidisciplinarity and the need to return research results to the various actors involved in the development project. The extension activities allowed to expand possibilities and partnerships, as well as select native forest plant species for inoculation with beneficial microorganisms, in a participatory way, giving greater social meaning to the research. It is emphasized that continuous efforts are necessary to establish betwen subject relationships and to enlarge extension activities to all those involved directly or indirectly with the project. The alignment of research and extension in microbiology, focusing on the production of seedlings of native forest species inoculated with beneficial microorganisms for the revegetation of the Doce River basin, has contributed to (share) actions that favor the participation and mutual engagement of the actors involved: researchers, technicians and nurseries.
