- Abstract
The authors discuss a study on the possible reduction of acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by 38-66% over a 2-year period through circumcision in heterosexual men. According to a group which conducted randomized trials, male circumcision did not show reduction efficacy, although it is effective in preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in females and herpes simplex virus-type 2 and human papillomavirus in men. Another author states that circumcision does not impact the risk of a man who is the receptive partner in anal sex.
