The article focuses on the history of the Socialist Party of America (SPA) between 1880 and 1919 and the role of religion within the party. The author discusses the article "Protestantism and the American Labor Movement: The Christian Spirit in the Gilded Age," by Herbert G. Gutman, explores the relationship between the labor movement and the Social Gospel movement, and examines how Christian convictions concerning social justice impacted the working class.
