- Title
Rethinking the Progressive Era AFL: Not Just What, but How and Why.
- Authors
Haverty-Stacke, Donna T.
- Abstract
The article responds to the essay "Pure and Simple Radicalism: Putting the Progressive Era AFL in Its Time" by Dorothy Sue Cobble in the same issue. The article discusses whether the American Federation of Labor (AFL) and its leader, Samuel Gompers, were conservative or radical during the Progressive Era. Factors shaping a historiographical approach that viewed the AFL as conservative are addressed.
