- Abstract
We determined the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of methanol extracts from selected plants from Araku environment. Total phenolic content of the plants was analyzed by Folin-Ciocalteu colorimetric method, while the total antioxidant activity was analyzed and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 1, 1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging capacity (DPPH) assays. Of all the five plant extracts (Piper nigrum, Centella asiatica,Elephantopus scaber, Siegesbeckia orientalis and Asparagus racemosus) showed significant antioxidant activity of which Centella asiatica and Azadirachta indica showed highest percent inhibition respectively whereas Siegesbeckia orientalis showed lowest percent inhibition.
