Teaching & Learning Guide for: Buddhist environmental ethics and climate change.
- Authors
Capper, Daniel
- Abstract
This document is a teaching and learning guide for an article titled "Buddhist Environmental Ethics and Climate Change." The author explores whether Buddhism is a suitable religion for the age of climate change, concluding that it has strengths in its ethics related to nonhuman animals. However, the author argues that Buddhism's focus on animals detracts from other important ecological elements like mineral formations and bodies of water. The guide provides recommended readings on Buddhism and the environment, as well as a sample syllabus and focus questions for further study. It also suggests a seminar activity that involves giving voice to various ecological elements affected by climate change. The author, Daniel Capper, is a professor who specializes in environmental ethics and American Buddhism.
