- Authors

- Abstract
The article reports that recent outbreaks of severe respiratory disease in racing greyhounds have been found to be caused by influenza viruses closely related to H3N8 equine influenza virus, according to a new study published in "Science." The episode is the latest example of an emerging disease resulting from a pathogen leaping from one species to another. However, experts said that unlike avian influenza or SARS, transmission of the H3N8 equine influenza virus from dogs to humans is not likely. The article gives an overview of details from the new study.
