- Title
LITERARY TEXTS AND ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS: BETWEEN ELISION AND ALLUSION.
- Authors
TOKER, LEONA
- Abstract
The article critiques the short story "Lida," by Varlam Shalamov, comparing it to two accounts of Gulag camps in the Archangelsk region of the Soviet Union in 1929-1930, published in volume 2 of the book "History of the Gulag." It notes that the documents include an anonymous letter and an unsigned report, probably by government official V.D. Feldman or his aide. The author explores the conditions of camp life, issues of accessing Soviet archives, and the falsification of accounts by prisoners.
