- Title
Dangerous Knowledge: On the Epistemic and Moral Significance of Arts in Education.
- Authors
Carr, David
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between the arts and moral education. The question of whether works of art should be considered relevant to knowledge about ethics is traced back to the differing views of the ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle. Issues involving aesthetics and epistemology are explored, and the significance of such issues for 21st century arts and education is also discussed. Examples are cited of controversial works of art dealing with sex and violence, and whether there are conditions under which it would be appropriate for children to study them.
