- Title
Long term employment impact: a tricky question for festivals.
- Authors
Autissier, Anne-Marie
- Abstract
Cultural employment is growing faster than total European employment. And it is of an 'atypical' nature -i.e. project-led, requiring mobility and high qualifications. About 4 million people are estimated to be working in the cultural field throughout the European Union. On the whole, the performing arts' sector appears to be fragile. The cost effectiveness of stage arts is at a substantial disadvantage in relation to other cultural industries. The main intention of this article is to evaluate to what extent the performing arts' festivals are a decisive contributor to the economy of this field.
